Rigards creates what is important to call "artisanal eyewear." Every set of frames is painstakingly handcrafted by a single specialist from beginning to end, so that styles are exceedingly limited. This exclusivity has attracted several serious eyewear collectors worldwide and is also quickly spreading to LA, especially since H. Lorenzo on Sunset Blvd could be the first US boutique to stock the brand.
Founded by two vintage frame collectors, LA-based Jean Marc Virard and Hong Kong-based Ti Kwa, the line's stars is its use of horn—a lightweight, sustainable material that is certainly heavily featured in antique glasses. Good founders, the horns they choose are "a natural by-product of Bubalus bubalis rearing on small African farms, and reflect our desire to make recycling a part of our culture," and that's why these frames don't come cheap. Budget range from $650 to $700; customized pieces including handpicked materials are only under $789.
